Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Medium and long chain fat emulsion (C8-24Ve) is an intravenous lipid emulsion used in parenteral nutrition to provide energy and essential fatty acids to patients who are unable to receive adequate nutrition through oral or enteral routes. It is a physical mixture of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) and long-chain triglycerides (LCT, typically derived from soybean oil), enriched with alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E) to enhance oxidative stability and reduce lipid peroxidation. MCTs are rapidly cleared from the bloodstream and oxidized to provide quick energy, while LCTs supply essential fatty acids to prevent deficiency. The formulation was originally developed by B. Braun (marketed as Lipofundin MCT/LCT) and is also manufactured and developed by Guangdong Jiabo Pharmaceutical and Guangdong Jibao Pharmaceutical Technology.
