Overview

MedLarv is a larval therapy (maggot debridement therapy) product consisting of sterile larvae of the green bottle fly, *Lucilia sericata*. Developed by MAGGOT 2006 Egészségügyi, Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató in Hungary, MedLarv is designed for the debridement of chronic wounds, specifically venous leg ulcers and mixed venous/arterial leg ulcers. The larvae function by secreting proteolytic enzymes that selectively liquefy necrotic tissue, which they then ingest, while leaving healthy tissue intact. Additionally, larval secretions exhibit antimicrobial properties and stimulate tissue granulation and wound healing. MedLarv has been evaluated in a Phase 3 randomized, open, self-controlled clinical trial in Hungary comparing its safety, efficacy, and debridement speed against hydrogel debridement.
