Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meftal-Forte is a combination analgesic and antipyretic medication containing mefenamic acid, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and paracetamol (acetaminophen). Developed and marketed by Blue Cross Laboratories, it is widely used for the short-term relief of mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever. Mefenamic acid works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins. Paracetamol acts primarily on the central nervous system to increase the pain threshold and regulate body temperature via the hypothalamic heat-regulating center. Meftal-Forte is commonly prescribed for menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), dental pain, headaches, muscle aches, and post-operative pain.
