Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Megafen N is an oral suspension formulation of ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Developed and marketed by Rameda (Rameda Pharmaceutical Company) in Egypt, Megafen N contains 100 mg of ibuprofen per 5 mL and is primarily indicated for pediatric use. It is used for the temporary relief of mild to moderate pain (such as headache, toothache, teething pain, sore throat, and musculoskeletal pain) and the reduction of fever associated with common infections, colds, flu, or post-vaccination reactions. Ibuprofen acts by reversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, thereby blocking the synthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain, fever, and inflammation.
