Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meglumine ginkgolide injection (brand name Yousaijin) is a botanical extract developed by Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical and China Pharmaceutical University. It is composed of ginkgolides A, B, and K, which are active diterpene lactones extracted from Ginkgo biloba leaves. The drug acts as a potent and selective antagonist of the platelet-activating factor receptor (PAFR), thereby inhibiting PAF-induced platelet aggregation, reducing neuroinflammation, and protecting the blood-brain barrier. It is approved in China for the treatment of mild-to-moderate cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke) during the recovery phase and is undergoing Phase II clinical evaluation for acute ischemic stroke.
