Megon

Megon is an oral tablet containing 160mg of megestrol acetate, a synthetic progestin developed and marketed by Genspec Lifesciences. As a progestogen, it primarily acts as an agonist of the progesterone receptor, though it also exhibits some glucocorticoid receptor activity. Megon is indicated for the treatment of anorexia, cachexia, or significant unexplained weight loss in patients with advanced cancer or HIV/AIDS. Additionally, it is used as a palliative treatment for hormone-dependent malignancies, such as breast and endometrial carcinomas. The medication works by modulating the hormonal environment to slow cancer progression and by stimulating appetite through complex metabolic and neuroendocrine pathways.
