**Melacine** was a therapeutic allogeneic melanoma vaccine developed from mechanically disrupted, lyophilized lysates of two human melanoma cell lines, MSM-M-1 and MSM-M-2, administered with the Detox-PC adjuvant. Its polyvalent tumor-antigen content was intended to prime cellular antitumor immunity, including melanoma-reactive cytotoxic T-cell responses, rather than inhibit a single defined molecular target. The product was developed by Ribi ImmunoChem and subsequently Corixa, evaluated in phase II and phase III melanoma studies, and authorized in Canada for malignant melanoma; its Canadian post-market authorization was cancelled on July 30, 2005.
