Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Melagenina Plus is a topical hydroalcoholic lotion derived from human placenta extract and calcium chloride, developed by the Center for Placental Histotherapy (Centro de Histoterapia Placentaria) in Cuba. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of vitiligo and skin depigmentation resulting from burns or other injuries. The active component, human placenta extract, contains a placental lipoprotein fraction that stimulates the proliferation of melanocytes (melanocytopoiesis) and the synthesis of melanin (melanogenesis) in depigmented areas of the skin. The addition of calcium chloride acts as an activator and stabilizer, enhancing the intensity and duration of the pigment-stimulating effect. Unlike the original Melagenina formulation, Melagenina Plus does not require exposure to sunlight or infrared/ultraviolet radiation to be activated and is applied only once daily.
