Overview

Melanoma antigens-specific CD8+ T lymphocytes are autologous cytotoxic T cells that have been isolated from a patient's blood, expanded ex vivo, and selected for their ability to recognize and target melanoma-associated antigens such as MART1/MelanA and gp100. These cells are then reinfused into the patient, often with low-dose IL-2, to target and kill melanoma cells. This form of adoptive T cell therapy provides a means of augmenting antigen-specific immunity against melanoma without the in vivo constraints that can accompany vaccine-based strategies.
