Melapuldencel-T is an autologous cellular immunotherapy developed for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. The therapy consists of a patient's own dendritic cells that have been loaded with antigens from irradiated autologous melanoma-initiating (stem) cells. This personalized approach aims to train the patient's immune system to recognize and destroy cancer stem cells, which are believed to be responsible for tumor recurrence and metastasis. The product is typically administered alongside granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) to enhance the maturation and activity of the dendritic cells. While it showed promise in Phase 2 trials and entered a Phase 3 trial (the "Intus" study), development was suspended by the developer (then Caladrius Biosciences) due to strategic and financial considerations.
