Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Melarginol is a multi-ingredient nutraceutical developed by AronPharma for the management of cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension and dyslipidemia. It contains a synergistic blend of Aronia melanocarpa extract, L-arginine, vitamin E, chromium, and folic acid. The primary mechanism of action is the enhancement of nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability; L-arginine acts as a direct precursor for NO synthesis by endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), leading to improved vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. The Aronia extract, rich in anthocyanins and other polyphenols, works alongside vitamin E to provide potent antioxidant effects, scavenging reactive oxygen species and protecting the vascular endothelium from oxidative damage. Folic acid supports homocysteine metabolism, while chromium aids in glucose regulation. Melarginol is currently in clinical development to validate its efficacy in improving cardiovascular risk markers.
