Overview

This combination serum is a topical dermatological treatment formulated to address hyperpigmentation disorders such as melasma and post-acne hyperpigmentation. The key active ingredient, Melasyl (2-mercaptonicotinoyl glycine), is a proprietary molecule developed by L'Oréal that functions by trapping melanin precursors, such as DOPAquinone, thereby preventing the overproduction of melanin at an early stage of melanogenesis. This action is complemented by 10% niacinamide (Vitamin B3), which inhibits the transfer of melanosomes from melanocytes to keratinocytes. The formulation also includes hyaluronic acid for its humectant and hydrating properties, and HEPES (Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid) to promote skin desquamation and enzymatic exfoliation. It is frequently evaluated as an adjunctive therapy following laser treatments, such as low-fluence Q-switched Nd:YAG, to improve clinical outcomes and maintain skin barrier function.
