Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Melatonin + injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) is a combination therapy being investigated for the management of periodontitis. Melatonin, a hormone with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is loaded into i-PRF, which serves as a bioactive scaffold. i-PRF is a second-generation platelet concentrate that, upon injection, forms a fibrin clot and provides a sustained release of growth factors such as VEGF and TGF-beta. This combination is designed to enhance tissue regeneration and reduce local inflammation in the periodontal pocket. The therapy is typically administered as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) to improve clinical and biochemical outcomes in patients with Stage II Grade A periodontitis.
