Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pharmamel is developing a specialized intratumoral formulation of melatonin, designated as IPR-674, for the treatment of solid tumors, specifically head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). While melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone with known oncostatic properties, its systemic efficacy is often limited by low bioavailability at the tumor site. This small molecule injectable is designed to be delivered directly into the tumor, where it targets mitochondria to drastically increase reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and trigger apoptosis. Preclinical studies have shown that this formulation can achieve complete tumor elimination in xenograft models and reduce markers of migration and metastasis.
