Overview
MELGVAX is an **allogeneic, genetically engineered whole-cell melanoma vaccine** developed as a cancer immunotherapy for melanoma. The formulation is based on "GVAX" technology, which uses irradiated tumor cells modified to secrete GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor) to induce an immune response against cancer cells. MELGVAX aims to stimulate the patient's immune system to recognize and attack melanoma cells, leveraging the enhanced immunogenicity provided through GM-CSF expression. The therapy is designed as an investigational therapeutic cancer vaccine and has primarily been assessed for safety and immunologic endpoints in early-phase clinical trials in patients with melanoma[9].
