Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Melilotus extract is a botanical drug derived from the sweet clover plant (*Melilotus officinalis*), containing coumarin (1,2-benzopyrone) as its primary active constituent. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of edema and inflammation associated with soft tissue injuries, hemorrhoids, and chronic venous insufficiency. The extract works by enhancing lymphatic drainage, stimulating macrophage activity to clear protein-rich interstitial fluid, and reducing capillary permeability. In China, it is available in tablet form, with Hunan Mingrui Pharmaceutical conducting pharmacokinetic crossover studies to compare their formulation against the reference product Xie Tuo Zhi-M.
