melitracen

Melitracen is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) used primarily for the treatment of depression, anxiety, and asthenia. It acts by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at presynaptic terminals, thereby increasing their concentrations in the synaptic cleft and producing an antidepressant effect. Its mechanism of action is similar to other TCAs such as amitriptyline and imipramine. Compared to older TCAs, melitracen may have a faster onset of action and improved tolerability. It is marketed both as a single agent and in combination with flupentixol (as Deanxit) for mood disorders including depression associated with anxiety or agitation[1][3][5][7].
