MELK siRNA is a research-grade gene-silencing tool designed to knock down the expression of the Maternal Embryonic Leucine Zipper Kinase (MELK) gene via RNA interference (RNAi). MELK is a serine/threonine kinase involved in critical cellular processes including stem cell renewal, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis. In preclinical oncology research, MELK siRNA has demonstrated significant growth inhibition in various cancer models, such as small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and brain tumors (e.g., U87MG glioblastoma cells), by inducing apoptosis and reducing cell proliferation. Beyond cancer, it has been investigated for its potential to accelerate wound healing by increasing collagen deposition and for its antiviral properties, specifically its ability to attenuate viral protein expression in influenza-infected cells. It is primarily utilized as a laboratory reagent and is commercially available from life science suppliers such as Santa Cruz Biotechnology.
