Overview
Melose is an approved ophthalmic lubricant formulation developed and marketed by Optho Pharma. It contains hypromellose (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose) as its active ingredient, along with electrolytes (sodium chloride and potassium chloride) and buffering/antiseptic agents (boric acid and borax). Melose is indicated for the treatment of dry eye syndrome and the relief of ocular discomfort, irritation, and inflammation caused by environmental factors, prolonged screen use, or post-surgical recovery. It works physically by forming a stable, lubricating, and hydrating film over the ocular surface, mimicking natural tears to restore moisture and protect the cornea.
