melperone

Melperone is an atypical antipsychotic of the butyrophenone chemical class and is structurally related to haloperidol. It has been used for over 30 years in the European Union for the treatment of sleep disorders, confusion states (especially in geriatric patients), psychomotor dysfunction associated with psychiatric and alcohol-dependent patients, severe agitation, schizophrenia-related psychosis (including treatment-resistant cases), anxiety disorders (with anxiolytic properties), and certain behavioral disorders. It is also considered for psychosis related to Parkinson’s disease. Melperone acts primarily as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist with low affinity and rapid dissociation from D2 receptors; it also exerts effects on serotonin receptors (5-HT2A) contributing to its anxiolytic and mood-stabilizing effects. The drug is known for its relatively mild side effect profile compared to typical antipsychotics[1][3][7].
