Overview

Isolated pelvis perfusion (IPP) is a regional therapeutic approach used to deliver high concentrations of antineoplastic agents directly to the pelvic region while minimizing systemic exposure. In the context of clinical trials conducted by Gustave Roussy, this procedure involves the administration of a combination of tasonermin (recombinant human tumor necrosis factor-alpha) and melphalan. Tasonermin acts as a vascular disrupting agent that damages tumor-associated vasculature and increases the permeability of the tumor to chemotherapy. Melphalan is an alkylating agent that induces DNA cross-linking, leading to the inhibition of tumor cell replication and apoptosis. This regional perfusion technique is primarily investigated for the treatment of non-resectable, recurrent gynecologic or digestive pelvic cancers.
