Overview

Melrilimab is a human monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin 1 receptor-like 1 (IL1RL1), also known as ST2 or the IL-33 receptor. It was developed as an antagonist of this receptor, thereby inhibiting the action of interleukin 33 (IL-33), a cytokine involved in inflammatory and immune responses. Melrilimab was investigated primarily for the treatment of asthma and atopic dermatitis, with clinical trials reaching up to phase II for asthma. The drug was originally developed by Janssen Research & Development and later by GlaxoSmithKline. Its development has since been discontinued for both asthma and atopic dermatitis[1][2][3][4].
