MEM 1917 is a small molecule phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor that was developed by Memory Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cognitive impairment, particularly in Alzheimer's disease. By inhibiting the PDE4 enzyme, the drug aims to prevent the degradation of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), a key intracellular signaling molecule involved in synaptic plasticity and memory consolidation. MEM 1917 was part of a broader PDE4 inhibitor program that included MEM 1414. Following the acquisition of Memory Pharmaceuticals by Roche in 2009, the development of MEM 1917 and several other pipeline candidates was discontinued.
