Overview

MEM 68626 is a potent and selective small molecule antagonist of the serotonin 5-HT6 receptor, originally developed by Memory Pharmaceuticals. It was primarily investigated for the treatment of cognitive impairments associated with Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The compound works by blocking the 5-HT6 receptor, which is predominantly expressed in brain regions involved in learning and memory, such as the hippocampus and cortex. Preclinical data indicated that MEM 68626 could improve both the acquisition and consolidation of memory and restore cognitive function in aged-impaired rats. Despite its favorable safety profile and potential for once-daily oral dosing, development appears to have ceased following the restructuring of Memory Pharmaceuticals in 2008 and its subsequent acquisition by Roche.
