Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Membrane Blue Dual is a vital dye solution used as a surgical aid in vitreoretinal procedures, specifically designed to enhance the visualization of ocular membranes. It is a combination product containing 0.15% Trypan Blue, which primarily stains epiretinal membranes (ERM) and necrotic tissue, and 0.025% Brilliant Blue G (BBG), which has a high affinity for the internal limiting membrane (ILM). The formulation typically includes 4% polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a density enhancer, creating a "heavy" dye that sinks through a balanced salt solution (BSS) to the retinal surface. This allows for precise application without the need for a fluid-air exchange. By providing clear contrast between different membranes and the underlying retina, Membrane Blue Dual facilitates safer and more efficient membrane peeling in surgeries for macular holes and epiretinal proliferation.
