Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The MenABCWY+OMV vaccine is an investigational pentavalent (5-in-1) meningococcal conjugate and protein-based vaccine designed to protect against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, B, C, W, and Y. It combines the antigenic components of existing quadrivalent conjugate vaccines (MenACWY) with recombinant proteins from serogroup B and outer membrane vesicle (OMV) from the New Zealand strain NZ98/254. The mechanism of action involves inducing protective antibodies against the polysaccharide capsules of serogroups A, C, W, Y as well as surface proteins specific to serogroup B. The addition of OMV enhances immunogenicity for group B strains. This combination aims to simplify vaccination schedules by providing broad protection in a single product for adolescents and young adults at risk for invasive meningococcal disease[5][6][7][8]. The developer is GSK.
