Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MenABCWY-1Gen vaccine is an investigational first-generation formulation of a combined pentavalent meningococcal vaccine developed by GSK. It is designed to provide broad protection against invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, B, C, W, and Y. The vaccine is a combination of GSK's two established meningococcal vaccines: Bexsero (MenB-4C), which contains recombinant proteins (fHbp, NadA, NHBA) and outer membrane vesicles, and Menveo (MenACWY-CRM), which consists of capsular polysaccharides conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein. The '1Gen' designation refers to a specific formulation evaluated in Phase II clinical trials, particularly in infants in Spain, to assess safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity. The broader MenABCWY program eventually led to the FDA approval of the pentavalent vaccine under the brand name Penmenvy in February 2025 for individuals aged 10–25 years.
