Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The **menacwy conjugate vaccine** is a quadrivalent vaccine that provides active immunity against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. It is made by extracting capsular polysaccharide antigens from *N. meningitidis* (serogroups A, C, Y, W-135) and conjugating them to carrier proteins containing T-cell epitopes (diphtheria toxoid, CRM197, or tetanus toxoid, depending on the brand). The conjugation enhances immune response, especially in young children, and leads to the production of protective IgG, IgM, and IgA antibodies against meningococcus. Used for primary immunization and boosters, it is indicated for individuals at increased risk (adolescents, military recruits, asplenia, HIV infection, microbiologists, travelers to endemic areas, and outbreak response). The vaccine is not effective against serogroup B. Primary series and booster schedule depend on age and risk group. Only administered by intramuscular injection[1][2][3].
