MenACWY-CRM conjugate vaccine, adjuvanted

MenACWY-CRM conjugate vaccine, adjuvanted, is an investigational quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine designed to protect against Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. This formulation utilizes the CRM197 carrier protein (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin) to which the capsular polysaccharides of the four serogroups are covalently conjugated. Unlike the standard marketed version (Menveo), this specific formulation includes an adjuvant—most commonly the squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion MF59—to enhance the magnitude and persistence of the immune response. The development of an adjuvanted MenACWY-CRM vaccine was primarily aimed at improving protection in infants and young children, who often exhibit lower immunogenicity to standard conjugate vaccines. While the non-adjuvanted Menveo is globally licensed, the adjuvanted version has been evaluated in numerous clinical trials to optimize pediatric vaccination schedules and potentially reduce the number of doses required for protective immunity.
