Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MenACYWX is a pentavalent conjugate vaccine candidate being developed by Hilleman Laboratories to provide broad protection against invasive meningococcal disease. It is specifically designed to target *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, W, and X. While quadrivalent vaccines (MenACWY) are widely available, they do not cover serogroup X, which has emerged as a significant cause of meningitis outbreaks, particularly in the African meningitis belt. The vaccine employs conjugation technology, chemically linking the capsular polysaccharides of the five serogroups to a carrier protein. This process converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, enhancing immunogenicity, inducing immunological memory, and providing more effective protection in infants and young children.
