Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The MenC-Hib conjugate vaccine is an investigational combination vaccine developed by Chiron (now part of GSK) designed to provide simultaneous protection against Neisseria meningitidis serogroup C and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). The vaccine utilizes Chiron's CRM197-based conjugate technology, where the capsular polysaccharides of MenC and Hib (polyribosylribitol phosphate) are covalently linked to the non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin, CRM197, to enhance immunogenicity, particularly in infants. It was evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials in healthy adults to compare its safety and immunogenicity against the separate administration of the licensed vaccines Menjugate and VaxemHib. Although the individual components are approved, this specific combined formulation did not proceed to global regulatory approval as a standalone product.
