Overview

MEndoB is a first-in-class, dual-active domain, protein-based antimicrobial engineered by Micreos Pharmaceuticals. It belongs to the next generation of engineered lysins—enzymes with peptidoglycan hydrolase activity that enzymatically degrade bacterial cell walls. This targeted biologic is designed for optimum activity on human skin and selectively eliminates harmful pathogens (notably staphylococci) while preserving beneficial microbiota. Its mechanism involves rapid and precise enzymatic degradation of the bacterial cell wall, leading to swift pathogen killing without triggering drug resistance or off-target effects. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in eradicating established staphylococcal infections in animal models and its synergistic potential with conventional antibiotics. The drug can be administered systemically or topically and is being developed primarily for dermatological conditions such as atopic dermatitis and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, as well as infectious diseases caused by staphylococci[1][2][3][5].
