Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Menveo (MenACWY-CRM) is a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine designed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. The vaccine consists of the capsular polysaccharides of these four serogroups, each individually conjugated to a non-toxic mutant diphtheria toxin carrier protein, CRM197. Originally developed by Chiron (later acquired by Novartis Vaccines, whose vaccine business was subsequently acquired by GSK), Menveo stimulates the production of bactericidal antibodies against the targeted serogroups. It was first approved by the FDA in 2010 for individuals aged 11 to 55 years, with subsequent label expansions down to infants as young as 2 months of age.
