Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Menactra is a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) developed by Sanofi Pasteur. It is composed of capsular polysaccharides from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135, each individually conjugated to a diphtheria toxoid protein carrier. The vaccine is indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by these specific serogroups in individuals aged 9 months through 55 years. By conjugating the polysaccharides to a protein carrier, the vaccine induces a T-cell dependent immune response, leading to the production of high-affinity bactericidal antibodies and the establishment of immunological memory. It was the first quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine licensed in the United States (2005).
