Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The meningococcal A and C conjugate vaccine is an inactivated vaccine comprising purified capsular polysaccharide antigens from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C, each covalently linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein (typically diphtheria or tetanus toxoid or CRM197 protein)[1][4][5]. The conjugation enhances immunogenicity, especially in infants and young children, by inducing T cell–dependent immune responses. When administered, the vaccine induces the production of specific antibodies (IgG, IgM, and IgA) against *N. meningitidis* serogroups A and C, providing active immunity against invasive infections caused by these serogroups. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of invasive meningococcal diseases, such as meningococcal meningitis, caused by these specific serogroups, especially in populations at increased risk or in response to outbreaks[1][4][5].
