Meningococcal A conjugate vaccines are biologic vaccines designed to prevent invasive disease caused by _Neisseria meningitidis_ serogroup A. Most commonly available as part of a quadrivalent formulation (MenACWY), these vaccines protect against four major serogroups (A, C, W, and Y) responsible for the majority of cases of bacterial meningitis and sepsis worldwide[1][3][6]. The mechanism of action involves inducing an immune response by presenting polysaccharide antigens from the bacterial capsule—specifically from serogroup A—conjugated to a carrier protein such as diphtheria toxoid or tetanus toxoid. This conjugation enhances immunogenicity by promoting T-cell dependent immunity and long-lasting antibody production[4][5]. These vaccines are indicated for active immunization in infants (as young as 2 months), children, adolescents, and adults up to 55 years old who are at increased risk due to medical conditions or exposure risks such as travel or outbreaks[4][8]. Major developers include Sanofi Pasteur (Menactra and MenQuadfi) and GSK (Menveo; originally developed by Novartis)[3][6].
