Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The meningococcal ABCYW vaccine is a pentavalent conjugate vaccine designed to protect against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, B, C, W, and Y. It combines antigenic components from both the quadrivalent ACWY and serogroup B vaccines into a single formulation. The mechanism of action involves inducing an immune response that generates protective antibodies against the polysaccharide capsules of these five major serogroups of *N. meningitidis*. This broad coverage aims to simplify immunization schedules for adolescents and young adults at increased risk for invasive meningococcal disease. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease in individuals at risk or as part of routine adolescent vaccination programs[6][8].
