Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The **meningococcal AC conjugate vaccine** is a sterile, non-live, inactivated conjugate vaccine designed to induce immunity against invasive diseases caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A and C (and commonly also W and Y, depending on the formulation)[1][4][7][9]. It uses specific polysaccharide antigens from the bacterial capsule, chemically conjugated to a carrier protein (such as diphtheria toxoid), to elicit a strong T-cell dependent immune response and long-lasting protective antibodies[1][7]. This vaccine is primarily indicated for the prevention of meningococcal meningitis and septicemia in children, adolescents, and adults at increased risk, including as part of national immunization programs[1][4][7]. Multiple branded formulations exist, such as Menactra (licensed by Sanofi), Menveo (GSK), MenQuadfi (Sanofi), and Nimenrix (Pfizer)[7]. It does not protect against all serogroups (not serogroup B).
