Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal AC polysaccharide vaccine is a purified, inactivated vaccine containing capsular polysaccharide antigens from *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C, designed to stimulate active immunity against invasive meningococcal disease caused by these groups. Unlike conjugate formulations, this vaccine consists of plain polysaccharides rather than antigens linked to protein carriers. The immune response is predominantly T-cell independent, yielding protection for a limited duration and less immunologic memory compared to conjugate vaccines. It is primarily used in outbreak control, travelers to endemic areas, and in certain populations at increased risk where conjugate vaccines are unsuitable. The vaccine does not provide protection against meningococcal serogroup B or other serogroups not included in the formulation[2][6].
