Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccine is an immunization designed to protect against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W, and Y. It works by inducing the immune system to produce antibodies against the polysaccharide capsules of these four serogroups after they are chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein. This enhances immunogenicity compared to plain polysaccharide vaccines. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease (including meningitis and septicemia) in infants, children, adolescents, and adults at increased risk[1][2][8]. Multiple formulations exist globally; common carrier proteins include diphtheria toxoid or tetanus toxoid.
