The meningococcal ACYW135 conjugate vaccine is a quadrivalent vaccine designed to provide active immunization against invasive disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. It works by inducing the body to produce antibodies against these bacterial serogroups. The "conjugate" formulation means that polysaccharide antigens from the bacterial capsule are chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein (such as diphtheria toxoid), which enhances the immune response—especially in young children. This class of vaccines does not protect against serogroup B Neisseria meningitidis. The primary indication is prevention of invasive meningococcal disease in individuals from 2 months through 55 years of age[5][6][4].
