Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal ACYW135 polysaccharide conjugate vaccines are inactivated (non-live) vaccines that protect against invasive disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. These quadrivalent vaccines contain capsular polysaccharides from each of the four serogroups chemically linked (conjugated) to a carrier protein such as diphtheria toxoid or tetanus toxoid. The conjugation enhances immunogenicity by inducing a T-cell dependent immune response and promoting immunological memory. They are indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease in children and adults. The primary indication is prevention of life-threatening illnesses such as meningitis and septicemia caused by these serogroups. Major brands include Menactra (Sanofi), Menveo (GSK), MenQuadfi (Sanofi), and Nimenrix (Pfizer). These vaccines do not protect against group B *Neisseria meningitidis*.
