Overview

Nimenrix is a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine designed to provide active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. Developed by GSK and later acquired by Pfizer, the vaccine consists of the capsular polysaccharides of these four serogroups, each individually conjugated to a tetanus toxoid (TT) carrier protein. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which significantly enhances immunogenicity, particularly in infants and young children, and induces long-term immunological memory. It was the first quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine approved in the European Union for administration as a single dose in individuals from 12 months of age, with subsequent label expansions down to 6 weeks of age.
