Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MenACWY conjugate vaccine refers to a class of quadrivalent vaccines designed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. These vaccines utilize a conjugation strategy where capsular polysaccharides or oligosaccharides from each serogroup are chemically linked to a carrier protein, such as CRM197 (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin), diphtheria toxoid, or tetanus toxoid. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, thereby inducing immunological memory and more robust immune responses, particularly in infants and young children. A prominent example is Menveo (MenACWY-CRM), originally developed by Novartis and now marketed by GSK, which was the first quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine licensed for use in children as young as 2 months of age. The vaccine works by inducing bactericidal antibodies that confer long-lasting protection against the targeted serogroups.
