Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Chiron MenACWY is a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine developed by Chiron Corporation (later acquired by Novartis and then GSK) to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. The vaccine consists of capsular polysaccharides from these four serogroups, each individually conjugated to a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin known as CRM197. This conjugation converts the T-cell-independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell-dependent antigens, thereby inducing a more robust immune response and immunological memory, particularly in infants and adolescents. The vaccine was extensively studied in Phase 3 trials, including evaluations of its safety and immunogenicity when administered concomitantly with other adolescent vaccines such as Tdap (Boostrix). It is currently marketed under the brand name Menveo.
