Overview

MenACWY-TT conjugate meningococcal vaccine is a quadrivalent vaccine designed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. It consists of the capsular polysaccharides of these four serogroups, each individually conjugated to a tetanus toxoid (TT) carrier protein. This conjugation process enhances the immune response by engaging T-cells, which leads to higher antibody titers and the induction of long-term immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children who respond poorly to plain polysaccharide vaccines. Two prominent versions of this vaccine are Nimenrix (developed by GSK and acquired by Pfizer) and MenQuadfi (developed by Sanofi). Nimenrix was the first quadrivalent conjugate vaccine approved in Europe for use from 12 months of age (later expanded to 6 weeks), while MenQuadfi is approved in the US and Europe for individuals 2 years of age and older (and in some regions for infants).
