Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nimenrix is a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) indicated for active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, W-135, and Y. The vaccine is composed of the capsular polysaccharides of these four serogroups, each individually conjugated to a tetanus toxoid (TT) carrier protein. This conjugation converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which enhances immunogenicity, induces higher antibody titers, and establishes immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. Nimenrix is typically administered as a single intramuscular injection and is approved for use in individuals starting from 6 weeks of age. Originally developed by GSK, the product was acquired by Pfizer in 2015 and is frequently used as a licensed comparator in clinical trials for next-generation meningococcal vaccines.
