Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine is designed to provide active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. Developed by Yuxi Watson Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Walvax Biotechnology), the vaccine consists of capsular polysaccharides from each of the four serogroups, each chemically conjugated to a carrier protein, typically CRM197 (a non-toxic mutant of diphtheria toxin). The conjugation process converts the T-cell independent polysaccharide antigens into T-cell dependent antigens, which enhances the immune response, particularly in infants and young children, and induces long-term immunological memory. The vaccine was approved in China in 2022 for use in susceptible populations to prevent meningococcal infection.
