Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Meningococcal group A and C conjugate vaccine is a bivalent vaccine developed to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C. The vaccine is composed of purified capsular polysaccharides from these two serogroups, each covalently conjugated to a carrier protein, such as tetanus toxoid. This conjugation process transforms the polysaccharides from T-cell independent to T-cell dependent antigens, which significantly enhances immunogenicity and induces immunological memory, particularly in infants and young children. Clinical evaluations, including Phase III and Phase IV studies conducted by Chengdu Olin Biotechnology, have demonstrated the vaccine's safety and its ability to elicit protective bactericidal antibody responses. It is primarily indicated for the prevention of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis in healthy infants and children.
