Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The meningococcal group A and C polysaccharide vaccine is a bivalent vaccine developed by Yuxi Watson Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Walvax Biotechnology) for the prevention of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroups A and C. It consists of purified capsular polysaccharides from these two serogroups. Upon administration, the vaccine induces the production of serogroup-specific bactericidal antibodies, which provide protection against invasive meningococcal disease. Unlike conjugate vaccines, polysaccharide vaccines do not typically induce T-cell dependent immunity or long-term immunological memory in young children, and are primarily used in older children and adults or for outbreak control in specific populations.
